JANUARY 2012 NEWSLETTER

Firstly Happy New Year to all our customers around the Uk!

Every month we will be putting a Monthly Newsletter onto our website to update our anglers and our guests.

Sorry for the delay in putting this Newsletter onto our website!  These past few weeks have been very busy for me but at last things are starting to settle down again.

December the 10th was our staff and builders celebration for the completion of David's Manor!  What a fantastic day it was too!

It started with trout fishing at 10am and lunch in our lodge and then finished with a 'Thank you get together' at 7pm in the Union Inn in Tavistock.  The fishing was great fun and everyone managed to catch at least one trout in the end but some tradesmen managed to catch 6!  The winning engraved glass tankard was won by Rob Moule himself....well done Rob!  I of course drank too much in the evening but a fun night was had by all!  My headache the next day was terrible though! 

Our Christmas Competition was held on Sunday 18th December and the weather was mostly dry and cold.  Fun was had by all and in the end the results were as follows,

1st Prize was won by Neville Beardow with 6 fish for 15lbs = Engraved Glass Tankard + Hip Flask + Engraved Winners perpetual Trophy!  AND a full day 6 fish permit!  Our Competition rules are that the person who catches his 6 fish limit will automatically beat an angler whose fish may be heavier in total, but which number less than 6 in total.  This prevents an angler who catches a single huge specimen fish winning the competition.  Well done Neville.

2^nd Prize was won by Adrian Fox with 5 fish for 18lbs-14oz = Engraved Glass Tankard and Lureflash reel.  Had Adrian caught a 6th fish, he would have won.  Sadly the 6th fish did not put in an appearance for Adrian.  That's life.  Sorry Adrian.

3^rd Prize was won by Chris Mahoney with 5 fish for 8lbs-12oz  = Engraved Glass Tankard and landing net.

We are expecting a delivery of 10,000 baby fish during January and I will let you know how they are next month.

Dave Kyaff from Plymouth caught a Rainbow of 9-3 with a Catswhisker on Saturday 3rd December.

Graham Milford from Plymouth caught a 8-11 Rainbow with a Fritz on Sunday 4th December.

Wayne Jewell from Okehampton caught a magnificent Brown of 10-1 with a Catswhisker and an 8lb leader on 6th December.

Stanley Glover from Kent caught a fantastic Brown of 8-15 with a Black and Yellow Lure on 9th December.

Rob Moule from Dousland caught a lovely Rainbow of 9-14 with a Fritz on Saturday 10th December.

Raymond Moule from Yelverton managed to catch a fish after lunch on our builders day of about 2lbs!  10th December.

Simon Stokes from Horrabridge caught a Rainbow of 8-4 with a woolly bugger on 10th December.

Mark Roberts from Plymouth caught a superb 11-8 Brown with an Appetiser on Sunday 11th December.

Pete Surman from Somerton caught a 8-10 Rainbow with a Jack Frost on 13th December.

Rob Canvin from Somerton caught a lovely Brown of 9-14 with a Damsel on 13th December.

Rob Canvin from Somerton also caught a Rainbow of 10-9 with a Jack Frost on 13th December.

Adrian Fox from Plymouth caught a Rainbow of 10-12 with a Catswhisker on 18th December.

The colder wet months have proved tricky for many anglers and some anglers wouldn't dare to chance the elements!  Put those hats on!

I would again like to wish all our anglers across the country a Happy New Year and lots of wet landing nets for the coming season!

More Special Fish During November

Mr. Dave Truscott from Plymouth with a lovely brown trout of 7-8 with a Nomad on 6th November.

John Huckings from Camelford caught two lovely rainbows of 6-1 and 10-3 with a White Fritz on 8th November.

Mark Lovell from Surrey caught a nice rainbow of 9lbs with a Rambo on 17th November.

Dave Truscott from Plymouth landed a lovely Brown Trout of 10lbs with a White Tadpole on 27th November.

All our brown trout are Triploids and so they cannot reproduce and therefore they will keep their good condition all winter.

As I said in our last Newsletter I would like to wish all our anglers successful winter fishing trips and as normal our free tea and coffee making facilities remain open everyday.

I would like to extend warm Christmas Wishes to all our anglers and holiday makers across the country.

THE FISHERY WILL BE CLOSED ON MONDAYS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR
EXCEPT BANK HOLIDAYS

Tavistock Trout Fishery will be closed on Mondays to all anglers except those in residence on all inclusive anglers fishing breaks

There are two reasons:

1) To allow the stocking of large triploid rainbow and brown trout to take place and to give them time to settle down.

2) To allow the Fishery grounds to be improved and maintenance to take place without disturbing anglers.
